As you may or may not know we have applied for a Grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois for starting a Rockford School of Irish dance. We have asked for enough to offer scholarships for 15 students to begin weekly lessons. The McNulty School of Irish Dance has been selected as our instructors and the Rockford Public Library has also been selected as providing studio space pending Grant approval. We will know in December. If not, we will begin a campaign anyway for soliciting students and look for funding elsewhere. We are on the road to Dancing our way back into the hearts of this city and renewing a new generation of Irish dancers this city can be proud to say are ours.
We are also bringing about a series of Irish/Celtic concerts to Rockford. So far this year we have brought the Fitzgeralds out of Canada in May, which was just a spectacular music and dance show. Then we had One For the Foxes on Sept 17th (half way to St. Pat’s Day) who represent the fresh new talent coming straight out of Ireland’s University of Limerick School of Music. What a performance!! And finally, back by popular demand we have Paddy Homan and the Noble Call with Christmas Time in Ireland coming to the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center on Sunday December 15th at 3pm for a matinee. Paddy is coming to Rockford at our request and taking a break from his filming schedule of “I am Ireland” for PBS to put on this show with his wonderful band, The Noble Call and dancer from Connemara, Ireland Brian Cunningham.http://irishmarchingsociety.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Irish-Christmas-Show-Poster-2019web.png
